Basic NeedsOur Goal: Reduce the number of hungry and homeless in Central Florida.

On any given night, an estimated 10,000 residents are living on the streets, staying in shelters, sleeping in cars or doubling up with friends and relatives. Even more heartbreaking, the fastest-growing segment of this population is families with children, who represent the new face of homelessness.

As the tri-county region’s largest funder of local hunger and homelessness programs, Heart of Florida United Way has distributed millions over the past five years to address and prevent these growing problems.

We have several programs in place to serve the emergency needs of the community.

211: 2-1-1 is our Information & Referral helpline and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Emergency & Homelessness Services: Emergency & Homelessness Services (EHS) works with our partner agencies to provide emergency one-time assistance and long-term case management.

Mission United: Mission United assists military veterans and their families with legal assistance, employment and education.
